Ostwärts auf zwei Rädern

From Bern to Beijing [2004-04-04 - 2007-12-12]

"It seems you have a big trip ahead of you" the jogger said to us, looking at the tightly packed panniers, while he overtook us with ease on a little uphill not far away from Langnau. "To Venice, we are heading" we replied, breathing heavily.

We didn't dare to admit on our first day of a long travel, that we would like to go to China. At that moment we could't believe it ourselves to what kind of journey we had just 'lift off' a couple of hours ago in Bern and looking at our obvious lack of fitness it seemed ridicoulous even to think of our final destination Beijing.

But with every turn of the cranks our physical shape improved and we had more and more faith in our project to travel through Asia by bicycle. After 28199 km in the saddle and many side-trips by foot, by bus, train and plane the journey ended 3 years and 8 months later on the square of heavenly peace in the capital of China.
